RECYCLING

AND

PAPER MAKING

回收與造紙廠

2015

Site and context:

The site is located along the Caledonian Road and sits in between the All Saints Church and Regent’s Canal. It is surrounded by beautiful artworks such as the mosaic walls, carvings on the bridge, and sculptures in the animal park. However, the ground is filled with leaves and branches. During the night, it is very dark and quiet. There are only a handful of people in the area and a few canal boats mooring next to the pavement.

Program & users:

The program of my design proposal is a place for paper making. The materials for this process come from the site as well as the Household Reuse Recycling Centre which is situated near the Caledonian Road Station. The materials that will be used for paper making are branches, leaves, waste wood and canal water. The users of my design proposal will be the school kids who come to the building for drawing and the artists from the art studio. The artists will also act as technicians and help to check the work processes in the building.

Design strategy:

The main idea of my proposal is to build a recycling centre in the site . This recycling centre will be similar to the Household Reuse Recycling Centre near the Caledonian Road Station.  The purpose of it is to reduce the distance that the people need to travel to recycle the wood and garden wastes. The role of the recycling centre is to convert the natural resources and reusables wastes to usable objects (i.e. paper ) for the area.
